Signing of the Declaration of the State of Israel

The Declaration of the State of Israel, signed in 1948, emphasizes freedom of religion, conscience, language, education and culture. However, many institutions in Israeli society do not support our forefathers' commitment to protecting citizens' rights and are guided instead by a blind devotion to maintaining an intolerant and religiously homogeneous environment. We at Jerusalem Institute of Justice believe that a Jewish and democratic state is not a self-contradiction, but rather an attainable reality. Rendering its democratic values within the justice system, Israel has the power to reinforce tolerance, truth, ethics, and morality, which serve to strengthen the fiber of the nation. Jerusalem Institute of Justice aims to create a better Israel for all citizens by advancing civil rights, freedom of religion and social justice. We believe that by strengthening Israel's democracy, we are strengthening the legitimacy of Israel's existence as a Jewish state.

These objectives are attained by:

  • Legal and political advocacy primarily on behalf of religious minorities and any other law abiding persons in Israel suffering from civil discrimination on the basis of their religious affiliation.
  • Initiation and supervision of humanitarian/social justice projects among the most vulnerable and disadvantaged sectors of Israeli society regardless of religious or ethnic background.
  • Facilitation of seminars and distribution of educational material in order to inform and educate religious and ethnic minorities, human trafficking victims, foreign workers and assylum seekers as to their legal and political rights in Israel.
  • Enhancement of Israel's public image among the nations and advancement of Israel's international diplomacy through media initiatives, demonstrations, and rallies on behalf of the Jewish state.

But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like an never-failing stream! Amos 5:24
